Regence form with arched cornice surmounted by ormolu figure of a child in classical drapery holding aloft a bird, ormolu border and four urn finials, four further flambeau finials above a lambrequin and fleur-de-lys cornice, the body of the case glazed on three sides, the canted corners with female caryatid mounts, raised on a scroll base with a mask of Hercules draped in the lion's pelt above a lambrequin in the center, on ormolu toupie feet; the whole finely veneered in marquetry in brass on grounds of red tortoiseshell forming strapwork and foliate scrolls, masks and cornucopiae, matching bracket composed of three struts mounted with gilt female-mask and flower mounts, leaf and fruit terminal. Ormolu with white enamelled cartouches with radial blue Roman numerals, outer minutes with every minute numbered, chased and engraved foliate scroll center, gilt bronze mask below decorated with two sphinxes and foliate scrolls. C. Waisted case with oak carcass, glazed on three sides and veneered with gilt brass inlaid tortoiseshell foliate marquetry. Gilt bronze winged dragon bottom corner pieces extending into feet. Gilt metal framed glazed door with centre bottom applique of a phoenix flanked by foliate rocaille decoration, matching pediment and bracket, pediment surmounted by the figure of a winged cherub. The bracket with gilt corner mounts in the form of chased leaves and fruit tail-piece descending from the base. D. Gilt bronze with blue Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches, outer Arabic minute ring, inner alarm disc with Arabic numerals and pierced foliate centre on white enamel centre disc. D. Glass, reverse painted with blue radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring and Arabic five minute markers, calendar dial below with outer date dial, concentric months and days of the week indications. Pierced gilt hour and minute hands, steel alarm hand, serpentine arrow-tipped calendar hands. M. 15 x 13 cm, brass with cylindrical pillars, going barrels, verge escapement with silk suspension, steel rod pendulum with brass bob, striking and repeating on two bells by ?organ cam? mounted above the movement, strike/silent lever on the back of the case. D. 20 cm., brass with arch-top, applied silvered chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring and Arabic five minute numerals, scroll spandrels, matted center with sector shaped apertures for the days of the week and months, date aperture below 12, strike/silent and music/silent dials above, aperture for the moon phases in the arch with lunar calendar and tune selection scale above. Very finely painted enamel scene of a woodcutter?s hut in a river landscape, applied multicoloured gold figures of the kneeling woodcutters using a steel band-saw to cut a log, to the left a man up a ladder chopping a tree with an axe, to the right a fountain, above two flying cherubs holding torches and appearing to strike two bells.
