The scene is surrounded by the dedication “Le Conseil d’Etat au Messager Boiteux 1898” (The State Council to the Messager Boiteux, 1898).
Cuvette (dome) engraved in taille-douce (fine-cut) with the dedication “No 11098 / Chronomètre à Ancre / Fabriqué par / Paul Ditisheim / à / La Chaux-de-Fonds / Offert à / Mr Ernest H. Bouvier / Le 28 Juillet 1898” (Lever chronometer No. 11098 made by Paul Ditisheim in La Chauxde-Fonds, Offered to Mr. Ernest H. Bouvier on July 28, 1898).
White enamel dial with suspended “Breguet” numerals. Blued steel “Spade” hands. The dial is dedicated “1898 / Souvenir / du / Cinquantenaire” (1898, Souvenir of the Fiftieth Anniversary).
18’’’ ½ (ebauche probably by LeCoultre, Le Sentier, Vallée de Joux), gilded brass, going barrel, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold and platinum poising screws and blued steel hairspring with Phillips terminal curve, polished steel indexregulator with swan-neck spring and micrometric screw.
The original fitted box (perfectly preserved by its protective cardboard box) is dedicated “Souvenir / du / Cinquantenaire de la République / 11 Juillet 1898 / Chronomètre No 11098 / Fabriqué par / Paul Ditisheim / à La Chaux-de-Fonds.” (Souvenir of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Republic, July 11, 1898, Chronometer No. 11098 made by Paul Ditisheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds).
