Very fine and rare limited-edition, Titanium chronograph wristwatch with date. Polished and brushed case, three-position crown, and two push-pieces chronograph. Octagonal bezel and caseback secured by 8 screws. special case back, engraved with the City of Sails script and a mention of a limited edition of 300 pieces, launched to celebrate the Be Happy sailing team in the 2000 edition of the Auckland race. Unusual blue Klein dial with "Grande Tapisserie" pattern, yellow luminous baton hour indexes, subsidiary dials for the 12 hours at 3 o'clock, the seconds at 6 o'clock and the 30 minutes register at 3 o'clock, aperture for the date between 4 and 5 o’clock, outer minutes divisions. White central chronograph hand, luminous yellow baton hands.

Audemars Piguet has history with the sailing world. Indeed the Royal Oak, designed in 1972, is its emblematic sports-luxury wristwatch. The present timepiece is part of a limited edition of 300 pieces launched to celebrate the Be Happy sailing team in the 2000 edition of the Auckland race. The strong point of this legendary chronograph variation is the use of titanium which is lighter than stainless steel. This metal is more difficult to work with, especially to design an octagonal case showcasing sharp angles. The dial clearly has a unique flair, displaying an electric blue tapisserie color as an homage to the seabed. Collectors called it “Yves Klein” blue, after the famous painter. Such history with the sailing race world will continue with the famous Royal Oak Alinghi first produced in 2005 and then with the Royal Oak Off-Shore launched in 2007.
