Patek Philippe, “Naviquartz”
The “Naviquartz” is publicly presented at the Basel Fair in 1970 but produced since 1969 (or very late 1968) until the late-1980’s. This chronometer is a high precision timepiece primarily used for celestial navigation and determination of longitude. An accurate chronometer was essential to deep sea marine or air navigation out of sight of land. The “Naviquartz” was made in three series; first, with calibre RH 29; then, circa 1974, with an improved calibre 33 QZ (16 384 Hz; respectively mark I, mark II and mark III); then, with calibre 33 (32 768 Hz):
“Naviquartz I”, calibre RH 29, without or with a two-piece wood cabinet with glazed cover (without key), available under:
• Ref. 1200, black dial with outer seconds graduation (so-called “instrumentation dial”) and white “Bâton” hands, silver fausse-plaque (false plate) with the mention “Naviquartz”, with black leather box.
• Ref. 1201, idem with wood cabinet.
“Naviquartz II”, calibre 33 QZ (16 384 Hz), two-piece wood cabinet with glazed cover and brass protections on each corners (with key), available under:
• Ref. 1202, black dial with outer seconds graduation (so-called “instrumentation dial”) and white “Bâton” hands, silver fausse-plaque (false plate) with the mention “NAVIQUARTZ”.
- Ref. 1207, silver dial and “Breguet” black hands, silver fausse-plaque (false plate) with the mention “NAVIQUARTZ”.
- Ref. 1208, gilded dial and “Breguet” black hands, gilded fausse-plaque (false plate) with the small mention, lower right, “Naviquartz”.
- “Naviquartz III”, calibre 33 (32 768 Hz), three-piece small wood cabinet wit plain cover and brass protections on each corners (with push-pieces), available under:
