Notes

Considered as the most luxurious everyday dress-watch model of Rolex, the Day-date was introduced in 1956. The reference 18038 was produced from 1977 to 1988. It is the first reference to be equipped with a sapphire crystal glass. Besides, the manufacture added the calibre 3055 with the newly developed quick-set date function. With its “President” bracelet, this wristwatch was produced in 1986. What makes it exceptional is the rare exotic wood dial, which could be seen reminiscent of the dashboards of luxury cars. After the hard-stone dial and lacquer dial, so-called stella, Rolex continued with their dial material experimentation in the 1970s with burl wood dials. The first wood dials were introduced to a wider public with the 18038 Day-Date, and the Datejusts of the same era.
