18K pink gold case, open-face, keyless-winding, round-shaped, large, heavy and impressive astronomical observation pocket watch, made for the Ottoman market, with stop-functions and three horological complications:
- Two barrels with differential gears and bidirectional-winding inspired by Louis-Elisée Piguet’s (1836-1924) works (according to the patent which will be granted in 1895)
- Two independently operating and stopping movements (stop-balances activated by the coaxial push-piece on the crown; each movement can be stopped consecutively and restarted at the same time, in unison)
- Hour of sidereal time (subsidiary dial at 2 o’clock with Turkish numerals)
White colour enamel (three-piece) dial, with two subsidiary dials; at 10 o’clock, for the mean time with black painted radial Roman numerals; at 2 o’clock, for the sidereal time with black painted radial Turkish numerals; two set of pink gold “Spade” hands.
Probably made by special order for the Sultan of Egypt.
