GOLD SEALING WAX CASE WATCH WITH CONCEALED EROTIC SCENE French. Paris discharge marks of Jean Baptiste Fouache for 1774-80. Very fine and very rare, Louis XVI, gold, painted on enamel and gilt brass sealing-wax case, set with semi-precious and paste stones, with a miniature watch and concealed erotic enameled scene.

Gilded metal body with floral and foliate decoration in relief, two sides with applied silver decoration set with multi-colored stones, hinged two-body varicolored gold top houses the watch, the back set with a painted on enamel portrait of a lady, the bottom of the case set with a dendritic (moss) agate oval panel on one side and a painted portrait medallion of a lady within a frame of ruby-colored stones on the other, the medallion can be rotated revealing a potentially incandescent erotic scene between the lady and a gentleman. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions, five-minute Arabic numerals. Gold Louis XVI hands. Oval, 21.5 x 18 mm., built on three levels, brass, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three-arm brass balance with flat spring, mounted between the third and fourth plate.

Made for the Chinese market, circa 1820. Extremely fine and very rare, large, musical, gold, painted on enamel and pearl-set pocket watch with sur-plateau musical movement playing music on the hour or at will.

Four-body, "Empire", hinged pearl-set bezel, pendant and bow, coin-edge band with lever at 11 for activating the music, hinged and sprung back cover decorated with a very finely painted on enamel bouquet of flowers on an opalescent guilloche enamel ground, scallop-edged gold border within an enamel white line and pale green enamel outer border, pearl-set edge to match the bezel. Hinged gold cuvette with winding apertures and lever for music/silence protruding from the edge. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, large subsidiary seconds. Gold poire hands. 53.5 mm., matte gilt, standing barrel, jeweled cylinder escapement with steel escape wheel, four-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, finely pierced and engraved English-style single-footed balance cock, index regulator with engraved scale on the backplate. Sur-plateau musical train with large fixed barrel, flat pinned disc with 25 tuned steel vibrating blades playing on both sides of the pinned disc, polished steel activation levers. Dial numbered 9124, case numbered 24/33, movement punch-numbered 32 on the musical disc.

Double-body, "Directoire", polished with glazed back, concealed hinge. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute track with painted gold divisions, regulation sector below 12. Fancy pierced gold hands. Magnificent varicolored gold automaton scene applied over a finely painted ground depicting a kitchen: a lady using a pestle and mortar sitting by a fire over which meat is being roasted, a boy peers through a window above her, to the right, a dog running in a rotating cage turns the spit, below a dog plays with a cat by a basket of vegetables. 50 mm. (22 1/4'''), gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance with flat balance spring, regulation via the dial. Automaton driven by an independent movement with going barrel and five-wheel train, eccentrically mounted and adjustable pinion as the governor, driving the automata by means of cams and levers, activated by depressing the pendant. Numbered on the pendant.
