According to our research, this highly impressive and hand-made clock was most likely made as a unique piece for the Prince of Brunei. Mounted on an impressive rock crystal base with a gold and enamel flower mount, the gold, diamond and cloisonné enamel egg opens to reveal an enamel flower arrangement mounted on a gold base. Upon sliding the enamel flower, the singing bird emerges. Made by the best artisans of our time, this possibly unique masterpiece makes its first appearance on the international auction market. According to the consignor, the original retail was around 300'000 Euros.

Griesbaum. Founded in 1905 by Karl Griesbaum (1872-1941) in Triberg, in the Black Forest. The son of Mathias Griesbaum, a clockmaker, Karl began by working in the basement of his home. Karl Griesbaum had five children: Mathias (1902-1974), who was named after his grandfather, Karl Joseph (b. 1916), Amalia, Helena, and Caroline. Mathias studied clock-making in Furtwangen, then pursued commercial studies in Karlsruhe, and later went to Switzerland. The most typical Griesbaum pieces produced during this period were probably their snuff boxes, particularly those made in a style reminiscent of traditional German silversmithery.

These particular models of painted enamel clocks represented the best examples that could be offered at the time. Not only did the manufacturer (clocks like these were found made for Imhof, Juvenia and Gubelin) take the time to make sure that each of the panels were decorated internally, they decorated the external panels as well. This is only the third clock of its kind to appear at auction (the last one was sold by Antiquorum, Lot 478, June 2011 Hong Kong and Lot 154, November 11, 2004 Geneva) and may indicate that these were made either for a special exhibition or by special order only and have slight variations on each clock indicating that each may be unique.

Just like the Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the IWC Jumbo Ingenieur was another genius design by Gerald Genta. Housed in a jumbo stainless steel amagnetic case, just like his other 2 creations, it featured the 8541 ES caliber, which was not only amagnetic but also featured a stop-second function. Made in only approximately 542 pieces, this is an opportunity to acquire a classic from Gerald Genta that will certainly become a future collectors piece, similar to the Royal Oak and Nautilus.
