P. Jaquet-Droz à La Chaux-de-Fonds and Paris, the cabinet by Antoine Foulet, circa 1760. "Le Renard et la Cigogne". Highly important and fine, "verni Martin" and gilt bronze, eight day going, hour and hall hour striking musical cartel with singing bird, on its "cul de lampe" ( bracket).

C. Shaped, in "vernis Martin", entirely decorated, including the bracket with roses and summer flowers over a green ground. Gilt bronze applied foliage and rocaille decoration, the front door with the Fox and the Stork, after the fable by Jean de La Fontaine : Le Renard et la Cigogne., the singing bird on a rocaille ornament above the dial. D. Gilt bronze with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minutes on enamelcartouches. Blued steel pierced Louis XV hands. M. Brass rectangular with going barrels for both the going and the striking train, verge escapement, plain pendulum with silk suspension. Striking train with Neuchâtelloise type striking work on the back plate. Eight tune musical train, fusee with chain, fly regulator, pincylinder with 9 bells and 17 hammers. The carillon plays two minutes before the hour striking time with optional levers to lock the music and for selection of the tunes. Brass rectangular singing bird mechanism with single fusee for two barrels and two chains, the four movements of the bird are controlled by two cams. The bird is singing at 8 am, 8 pm and noon, but does not sing at midnight, it may also sings at will. Signed on the back plate and on the dial. In very good condition, singing bird mechanism restored. Dim. 166 x 58 x 29 including the bracket.

The highly complicate planetary dock of Monsieur Pouvillon Paul Pouvillon, Masterpiece made between 1930 and 1939. Highly complicate astronomical weight driven skeleton planetary dock.

C. Black painted base containing the weight and the pendulum. The structure divided in three cages, secured on two polished columns. D. 48 chapter rings and dials and apertures, giving the position of the sun, the moon and other plants, hours minutes and seconds, the dates, days of the week, the months and the years, the seasons, signs of the zodiac, the golden number, the mobil feasts (including the date of Easter), time-zones, the equinoxes etc... The first wheel of the 12 wheel and pinion equinox train revolves in 23 sidereal hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds, the last one, showing the movement of the hearth's axis makes its own revolution in 25'806 years. The solar time with sun-and-planet gearing is displayed by a miniature mystery dock at the top of a glass tube, constructed in the manner Robert-Houdin's most elaborate creation, Sun-rise and Sun-set times are given together with the length of days and nights, a map of the sky, for the northern hemisphere, drawn on a glass disc, gives the position of the different constellations. M. End-less rope weight driven going train with Graham type pin-wheel dead beat escapement, wooden rod seconds beating pendulum with spring suspension. Endless rope weight driven striking train with count wheel, striking o a bell. Signed on the base. In very good condition. Dim. 147 x 56 x 47 cm.

C. Mahogany rectangular with hinged glazed front door. D. Silvered, regulator type with centre seconds, small eccentric hour chapter with Roman numerals from 0 to XI and Arabic from 13 to 23, small Arabic minute chapter above and off-set observation aperture for the remontoir. Blued steel "spade" hands. M. Brass rectangular with battery powered remontoir rewinding a 10 gram weight visible through the dial aperture, every 20 to 40 seconds, according to the state of charge of the 4 volt battery. Riefler escapement with jewelled pallets and jewelled bearings in which the impulse is given via the suspension spring which is re-tensioned by the escapement at each swing of the pendulum. It is thus a constant force escapement in which the suspension spring is used as a remontoire. The pallet frame is supported on knife edges from which the pendulum is suspended as well. There are two escape wheels, one for locking and one for tensioning the suspension spring. Second beating invar-elinvar pendulum. Signed on the dial and pendulum. In very good condition.
