Manual winding counter clockwise for the movement and clockwise for winding the automaton scene which is activated, for a maximum of 2 minutes, by depressing the push button on the crown. Double body, bassine form with loose-ring pendant, the gold split bezel with engraved decoration, the back exterior enamel with Jupiter et Calysto, the band with landscape vignettes, intersected by a floral pattern painted en grisaille; interior with a classical ruin in a landscape after Gabriel Perelle. D. Gold champleve with matted ground, the centre engraved with a rosette. Blued steel single hand. M. C. Three piece "oignon" silver overlaid gilt brass, fully engraved with foliage, the hinged back centred with a small village, disclosing the enamel cock through a glazed aperture. D. White enamel embossed with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Blued steel "poker and beetle" hands. M. Hinged gilt brass with Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel two arm balance, short balance spring, gilt brass balance cock applied with an enamel plaque, painted with the portrait of a winsome lady proud of her charms. Souria, 20 rue Feydeau a Paris, No. 873, circa 1830. "Le Suicide de Cleopatre" Fine 18K gold and enamel hunting cased, garnet set watch with digital jumping hours, set with an early 18th century watch back, of which the enamel is attributable to Jean V Musard (1681-1754).

C. Double body, fully chased with a floral and foliage garnet set decoration over an amati ground, the back set with a very fine painted enamel scene depicting Cleopatra and the asp. D. Silver engine-turned with digital hour aperture, small eccentric minute ring and off set subsidiary seconds. Blued steel minute hand. M. Hinged full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock and polished steel end-piece. Unsigned, English, circa 1740. "L'espoir de to fidelite fait ma settle fel kite" Fine 22K gold and cornelian compendium, containing fine gold and cornelian travel toilet accessories including a pair of porcelain scent bottles; accompanied by a later black leather fitted box.

Double body rectangular, cornelian with pyramidal top, fully overlaid with gold open work chased with inhabited foliage and pastoral scenes, pine-cone finial and diamond-set push piece. The border of the lid with the inscription over a white champleve enamelled ground: L'espoir de la fidelite fait ma scale felicite. Four gold feet designed as scallops. Dim. 95 x 57 x 47 mm.

Unsigned, English, circa 1740. "The Casket of Venus" Fine 22K gold and bloodstone compendium, containing fine gold and bloodstone travel toilet accessories.

Double body rectangular, bloodstone fully overlaid with gold open work chased with inhabited foliage and pilgrims at the Cythera Island, a pilgrim on the lid is pouring water into a shell held by Venus. The front face with a fine applied gem-set clasp. Dim. 80 x 61 x 54 mm.

Vienna, circa 1860. "Venus and Amphitrite" Fine silver and enamel table watch designed as a monstrance in the Renaissance style.

C. Double body oval, surmounted by a seating Satyr playing cymbals, the band with engraved floral decoration over a black champleve enamel ground and applied with two silver and white enamelled heads of angels. The enamel back painted with a scene depicting Venus and Amphitrite, the enamel backing decorated en suite with a scene featuring Venus and Cupid. It is supported by the wings of an eagle, the base with alternated black champleve enamelled decoration matching that of the band, applied with silver winged angel's heads and four painted allegories on love. D. Silver with champleve enamelled decoration in a Renaissance pattern, the Roman numerals on a white enamel chapter ring en reserve. Silver "Louis XV " hands. M. C. Double body Louis XV, the back with a very fine enamel painted panel in a rose-diamond set frame, depicting a maiden visited by Cupid, outer two coloured gold chased decoration. Inside the case, the marks of Alaterre, "Fermier General " from 1768 to 1774" and the engraved inscription: The watch of Henrietta Cumpbell of Blythswood, born ......... married 1776 Archibald Swinton of Kimmeighame, (lied 1827. Double body with paste-set bezel and blue champleve enamelled decoration, chased with paste and sapphire cabochon imitations, the enamel back painted with a charming scene depicting a loving couple in a park within an oval paste set frame, over a blue enamel ground with rectangular paillonne border decoration. Matching chatelaine, decorated en suite, with an oval enamel panel painted with a maiden walking in a park with her dog running after a clove. D. White enamel with Roman numerals. Pierced paste-set Louis XVI hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with conical pillars, fusee with chain, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Unsigned, French, circa 1790. "Venus et Cupidon" Extremely fine and impressive white marble and ormolu eight day going, moon phase astronomical, hour and half hour striking, centre seconds mantle clock.

C. White marble oblong with rounded ends, with gilt bronze acanthus applied decoration, on four engineturned feet. The face of the terrace applied with a freeze featuring Cupid on a chariot, drawn and followed by Muses; it is flanked by further acanthus decoration. Venus and Cupid are seated on the white marble rock above the movement. D. White enamel with Breguet numerals with outer Minute, seconds and calendar rings, central moon phase aperture. Gilt brass Louis XVI hands, blued steel for the dates and seconds. M. Brass circular with going barrels both for the going and the striking trains, pin-wheel escapement on the back plate, half seconds beating pendulum with knife edge suspension suspension. Striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate. Dim. 90 x 84 x 24 cm.

De Verberie & Cie hivenit et fecit, rue des Fosses du Temple No. 47, a Paris, circa 1815. "La Forge de Cupidon" Very fine and rare gilt bronze, hour and half-hour striking, automaton clock.

C. Driven by a built-in independent train, a Cupid on the top, with glass eyes and wearing a leather apron, is grinding arrows for Venus; the grindstone wheel is activated by his right foot and he realistically moves his hands from right to left. There are two waterfalls, the first pouring water on the grindstone, the second for the water falling from the grindstone into the bucket. The movement set on the gilt bronze base with four paw feet, the freeze on the face, depicting cherubs forging arrows for Venus. D. White enamel with Roman numerals. Gilt brass Louis XVI hands. Winding holes concealed beneath the gilt bronze bezel attached by a bayonet fixing. M. Large triple train rectangular with going barrels both for the going, the striking and the automaton trains, anchor escapement, short pendulum with silk suspension; striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate; independent train driving the automata by means of cam and levers, released at will or every hour by the striking train. Signed on the dial. Dim. 49 x 36 x 12 cm.

Double body rectancgular with canted corners, base and side panels of blue flinque with white and blue champleve enamelled borders, the lid with a very fine enamel panel, painted with a scene featuring Science and Love in an attempt to stop Time personified as Kronos, within a gold frame chased with a wreath of leaves, (sides restored). Signed centre right. Dim. 71 x 100 mm.

C. Double body, Directoire, polished with glazed back. D. White enamel on the front with Breguet numerals. Gold half-moon hands. Varicoloured gold automaton scene on the rear face, applied on a finely painted enamel Swiss landscape with mountains on the background. Between two Martin Martine type automaton jacks striking hours and quarters on bells and also driven by the repeating work, two cherubs are forging the weapons of Venus. M. Gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance beneath the dial, flat balance spring. Repeating by depressing the pendant on two bells placed between the plates. Milled wheel on the dial plate to set the hands. Signed on the dial. Diam. 54 mm.
