Powerful looks and innovative technique: a perfect combination found in all De Bethune timepieces, expressions of the finest watchmaking with the most up-to-date features. The greatest strength of the De Bethune manufacture is its research and development department. The company was established in 2002 in La Chaux L?Auberson in the Swiss Jura, by David Zanetta,a well-known consultant of some of the world?s most prestigious watch collections, and Denis Flageollet,a master watchmaker and professor at Le Locle, who has 20 years of experience in research, conception and the development of over 120 prestigious watches. Together they have equipped the De Bethune factory with the machinery and expertise to produce all of its calibres (manual and automatic) in-house, in addition to making their own cases, dials, and hands. This guarantees the highest level of excellence in production and quality control. The design of each De Bethune calibre is a reflection of the company's philosophy: simplicity, elegance and functionality. Each mechanism is designed to combine new technologies with great watchmaking tradition. De Bethune has developed new types of balance systems to improve amplitude and rate stability. After patenting the new titanium/platinum balance wheel in 2004, in 2006 De Bethune presented the world?s first balance wheel made of pure crystalline silicon, a material that is lightweight and elastic. The silicon balance spring is fitted with the De Bethune plane terminal curve in order to achieve isochronic oscillations. The De Bethune IOS (Isochronic Oscillating System) is completed by a ?triple parachute Titanium Bridge? designed to fully protect the escapement from shocks. Every timepiece created by De Bethune is the result of technical research, development, and many details which make all the difference: excellent mechanical reliability, meticulous attention to detail, the commitment to ensure the highest quality at each stage of production, and the creation of contemporary designs incorporating traditional know-how.

What is a Tourbillon ? A Tourbillon is a regulating mechanism in which the escapement of a movement is housed within a revolving carriage. It was developed in an effort to attain better precision. When a watch is in a vertical position, the force of gravity will speed the balance wheel as it moves in its downward (arc) direction and slow it as it moves upward, creating deviational errors of timekeeping. By placing the balance and escapement in a carriage that revolves 360° per minute, these errors become averaged and the timekeeping becomes constant and consequently adjustable. Created by Abraham Louis Breguet in 1795, the tourbillon is considered a difficult and complex achievement by any watch manufacturer.

Uhrenfabrik Union Glashutte's Johannes Durrstein series of limited edition wristwatches. Using classic gold "cushion" cases, the series includes: a simple hand-wind (No. 1); a perpetual calendar (No. 2); and a flying tourbillon (No. 3) all limited to 50 pieces each.
Flying Tourbillon. As opposed to regular tourbillon regulators in which the carriage is fitted in a plate and secured by a bridge, in flying tourbillons, the lower bearing of the carriage is fitted in the plate in the regular way, the upper bearing is fitted beneath the carriage, and the carriage is built around a free (flying) arbor. On the top of the carriage, there are neither pivot nor bridge.
Union In 1883, the Dresden watch wholesaler, Johannes Durrstein realised that in times of financial hardship only a very small number of his clients could afford the fine and expensive original Glashütte watches. This led to his establishing the Präzisions- Taschenuhrenfabrik UNION Glashütte in Sachsen, where he made fine precision watches and everyday watches of modest price. Even today, this traditional company makes watches that represent the highest level of German watchmaking and that are entirely conceived and made in Glashütte.

The 7-day power-reserve is provided by four mainspring barrels working in parallel, the pair on the left is wound by the rotor, the pair on the right by the winding crown and power is distributed equally ? a world first. Using parallel barrels enables the reduction in torque of each mainspring, increasing isochronism and reducing wear.
MB&F Was founded by Maximillian Busser in 2005 to bring together the most talented independent watchmakers to push the boundaries of watchmaking, producing pieces that might be described as art and sculpture as well as being triumphs of micro-engineering. The aim of the collective ? all friends ? is to craft a radical horological masterpiece each year. The HM 1 is the first of these pieces. Each watch model made by the MB&F brand has been designed by a different team of horological experts and ?friends?. The HM1 model was designed by Maximillian Busser and Eric Giroud, while the movement was conceived by Peter Speake-Marin and Laurent Besse.

Charles Oudin Born in Clermont in 1772. He was a pupil of Breguet and one of his best foremen. He devised a way of fitting equation of time to souscription watches. Oudin was in business on his own in the Galerie de Pierre, Palais Royal, from circa 1804 to 1825, and was then succeeded by his son, who transferred the firm to Galerie Montpensier, 1830-1840, and subsequently took Détouche into partnership. A. Charpentier was the successor to Oudin Fils, using the signature: Charles Oudin à Paris, Horloger de L.L. M.M., l'Empereur et l'Impératrice de Russie. To accompany the display at the 1862 Exhibition in London, Oudin-Charpentier produced a book entitled: "Catalogue of Chief Exhibits by Oudin-Charpentier, principal clockmaker to their Majesties The Queen and King of Spain and to the Imperial Navy". Oudin-Charpentier was made official watchmaker of the French Navy: a mosaic which still exists today, at No. 52 Place du Palais Royal, bears witness to his title "Horloger de la Marine Nationale". Considering the quality of his work, it is surprising that so little is recorded about his life. The Oudin Company perpetuated the Breguet tradition.

Poinçons de Genève The voluntary quality control of watches at the Geneva Observatory was established by law on November 6, 1886. Conditions were laid down for the attribution and stamping of the Poinçons de Genève, punch-marks representing the coat-of-arms of the city of Geneva. Pocket watches and wristwatches which carry the Geneva Mark, considered the equivalent of the "Bulletin Officiel de Marche", stamped on a bridge and on the main plate of the movement, may be officially termed "chronometers".

This is an extremely unusual object in Patek Philippe?s output and was probably made as a special order. Often with unusual pieces such as this Patek supplied the movement only (as stated in the Extract from the Archives), however in this case the silver box is fully signed on each part, making it extremely rare as an object entirely made by Patek Philippe.
