Notes

The Lange 1 was unveiled on 24 October 1994 at Dresden Castle as the flagship of the brand’s inaugural post reunification collection, masterminded by Walter Lange. First-generation examples are defined by the pioneering hand-wound manufacture calibre L901.0.

This presented example is a very fine and early first-generation A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1, reference 101.021, calibre L901.0, cased in 38.5 mm and 18K yellow gold with sapphire crystal caseback.

It was purchased on 29 July 1997 by the present Hong Kong-based collector and has been carefully kept for nearly 30 years, remaining in excellent overall condition. The case shows a beautiful, even patina, while all engravings and hallmarks remain crisp and original. Displaying the desirable early sapphire caseback and attractive blued steel hands, together with the classic asymmetric dial, outsize date, 72-hour “Doppelfederhaus” power reserve, and superb Glashütte finishing, this is a quintessential and highly collectible example of modern Saxon horology.
