Stainless steel, self-winding, round-shaped, large gentleman’s wristwatch, water-resistant with engraved case-back screwed by six screws, black dial with radial indexes (hour triangle red-tipped hand and minute hand), with seven horological complications: • Date of the month, so-called “big date” (double aperture at 5 o’clock) • Month of the year (graduated scale inside the circle of hour-markers, with the white super-luminova index) • “Sector”-type equation of time (subsidiary sector at 6 o’clock, with the small white index indicating the difference between apparent solar and mean solar time) • World Time (outer revolving ring, adjustable by the crown at 9 o’clock) • Multiple time zone display (activated by the push-piece at 2 o’clock) • Second time zone or mean solar time (long triangle-tipped hour hand with white super-luminova, completing a full turn of the dial in 24 hours, adjustable by the crown at 10 o’clock) • Third time zone (long sun-tipped hour hand with red super-luminova, can be set to show time zones in half-and quarter-hours, a useful aid in parts of the world like India and the Pacific; it also slides, permitting it to be set to display the mean solar time of any location according to its longitude).

Notes

Arnold & Son, “Hornet World Timer”
The “Hornet World Timer” has no fewer than six central hands. They are driven by wheels with special split teeth, manufactured using LIGA technology, to ensure play-free movement. The watch can display three time zones: the two-pointed hands indicate 24 time zones on the outer ring, while the golden sun-tipped hand can be set to show time zone in between. It can also be adjusted to display mean solar time at any location according to its longitude. The shortest hand shows the equation of time: the difference between apparent solar and mean solar time. A double-disc big date at 5 o’clock and circular month display at the centre complete the dial.
