Audemars Piguet, Geneva, No. 5911, retailed by Goodrich & Potter, Chicago, circa 1889.Very fine 18K gold keyless "EXTRA" adjusted minute-repeating watch.

C. Four-body, "bassine", polished, gold hinged cuvette. D. White enamel, Breguet numerals, outer minute track with five-minute red Arabic markers, subsidiary sunk seconds. Blued steel "spade" hands. M. 37 mm. (17'''), Cal. SMV, rhodium-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, 31 jewels, straight line calibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring, "swan-neck" micrometric regulator, wolf-tooth winding wheels, repeating on gongs through activating slide inthe band.Signed on the movement, retailer signed on the dial, movement and the case numbered with the same number.Diam. 47 mm.

Notes

A watch with the same caliber (No. 6062) is illustrated in "Audemars Piguet" by Gisbert L. Brunner, Christian Pfeiffer-Belli, and Martin K. Wehrli, München, 1993, p. 110.We do not know who Goodrich & Potter were, however we know that in 1870 the famous Albert H. Potter and his brother William opened a company, Potter Brothers, which William continued for a number of years. It is conceivable that after closing Potter Brothers, William became associated with Goodrich.
