Notes

The present Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 14811BC in 18K white gold is an extremely rare and visually striking interpretation of Gérald Genta’s iconic design. Produced in 1998 and confirmed by Audemars Piguet as having been sold that same year in Nigeria, this special edition was created for the Nigerian retailer Danatec and features a unique skeletonized dial depicting the African continent, set with an emerald marking the location of Nigeria. It is understood that only ten examples were made, each showcasing an exceptional blend of horological artistry and regional significance.

Powered by the celebrated automatic calibre 2120, one of the thinnest self-winding movements ever created, the watch embodies the technical refinement that has long distinguished Audemars Piguet’s haute horlogerie. The movement’s openworked bridges and intricate skeletonization highlight its mechanical elegance while revealing the architectural depth for which the Royal Oak line is admired. Originally derived from a 1967 ébauche and later produced entirely in-house, the calibre represents a milestone in both ultra-thin engineering and aesthetic finishing.

The white gold case retains the hallmark octagonal bezel with exposed screws and the seamlessly integrated bracelet that define the Royal Oak’s unmistakable geometry. In this rare configuration, the sculptural dial transforms the watch into a piece of wearable art, merging technical transparency with engraved decorative themes unique to this edition.

Offered in superb condition and supported by confirmation from Audemars Piguet of its 1998 sale in Nigeria, this reference 14811BC stands as one of the most collectable and historically meaningful Royal Oak variants. Combining rarity, provenance and artistic execution, it represents a remarkable chapter in the creative evolution of Audemars Piguet during the late twentieth century.
