Alinghi is the syndicate set up by Ernesto Bertarelli, racing under the colors of the Société Nautique de Genève, to challenge for the famous America’s Cup, also called by amateurs Auld Mug, which is an international sailing race. Initiated as a friendly challenge between Yacht Clubs in the second half of the 19th century (1851), it is one of the oldest sporting competitions still held today. In 2002, as o!cial sponsor of the Swiss team, Audemars Piguet released limited editions to commemorate their partnership and then victory. A first Alinghi timepiece was release (2005), followed in 2007 by the present Royal Oak O"shore Alinghi Team. Realized in three versions in platinum, pink gold and, as for the present lot, in carbon, this last iteration represents the first watch with forged carbon case to appear on the market and was made in 1300 pieces, this being number 537. It is therefore a true piece of human adventure that the owner of this watch holds in his hands.
