Notes

The present Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 5402 from the desirable B-series represents one of the most emblematic early executions of Gérald Genta’s original stainless-steel luxury sports watch. Featuring the sought-after dial configuration with the Audemars Piguet signature positioned at 6 o’clock and the fine petite tapisserie pattern now displaying a rich and appealing tropical tonality, this example illustrates the aesthetic maturity and subtle evolution characteristic of the early Royal Oak production.

Preserved in remarkable condition throughout, the watch retains its original integrated stainless-steel bracelet manufactured by Gay Frères, exhibiting the refined construction and tapering geometry that defined the earliest Royal Oak bracelets. The sharpness of the case, bezel and bracelet links contributes to the exceptional quality of the present example, a state of preservation rarely encountered.

From a historical perspective, the B-series marks an important moment in the early diffusion of the Royal Oak, bridging the audacious 1972 launch and the model’s establishment as a cornerstone of modern horology. Accompanied by its original box and papers, and offered with a remarkably well-preserved case, dial, movement and bracelet, this full-set B-series reference 5402 stands as a superlative representation of the earliest chapter of the Royal Oak legend, combining rarity, originality and outstanding overall quality.
