The Audemars Piguet reference 8638 was produced primarily between 1976 and 1980. This model was part of the Royal Oak collection and represented a significant milestone for the brand. It was initially introduced in 1976 in stainless steel, and from 1977 onwards, it was also offered in two-tone and yellow gold versions.
This reference is particularly significant as it was designed by Jacqueline Dimier, who reinterpreted Gerald Genta’s original Royal Oak design to create a more compact, 29mm version that appealed to a wider audience, including women.
