BAULLIER & GUYERDET - EMPIRE MANTEL CLOCK 'LA LECTURE' Baullier & Guyerdet à Paris, movement No. 3751. Made circa 1815. Fine and rare, Empire, gilt-bronze, 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking mantel clock.

Rectangular clock housing in the form of a bookcase surmounted by a wreath and book finial, oval base with two seated children reading books, the sides with chased garland mounts, stepped base and circular feet, bezel chased with a repeated pattern. Annular white enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, engine- turned gilt center. Blued steel Breguet hands.. Circular plates, going barrels for both trains, anchor escapement, silk suspension, pendulum with gilt-brass bob, countwheel striking on a bell.
