BAUME ET MERCIER, TRIPLE DATE CHRONOGRAPH, STEEL, NEW OLD STOCK Baume & Mercier, Geneve, "Triple Date Chronograph" case No. 455769, Ref 909. Made in the 1950s. Fine, stainless steel wristwatch with square button chronograph, register and triple date.

Three body, polished and brushed, concave lugs, convex bezel, pushers on the band, snap on case back. Silver with applied faceted yellow gold arabic and teardrop indexes, outer blue tachometer graduation, apertures for the days of the week and of the months; inner minute and 1/5th second track, guilloche subsidiary dials for the seconds, 30 minute and date registers. Yellow gold alpha baton hands. Rhodium plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self compensating steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator.

Dial, case and movement signed. DIAM. 35 mm. THICKNESS 12 mm. On the afternoon of May 18th, 1947, the Swiss national soccer team was to play against England in front of 34'000 spectators at the Hardturm stadium in Zurich. During this friendly game, Switzerland was to clench victory on a 1-0 score. In honor of this victory, Karl Rappan received this watch. Karl Rappan (1905-1996): Born in Austria, he was to become the most succesfull coach of Swiss teams in history. From 1932 to 1964, he trained multiple Swiss teams including Servette, Grasshopper and FC Zurich, winning multiple league titles and cups. He moved on to managing the Swiss national football team in 77 international matches, the most ever by any Swiss coach.
