BREGUET & FILS QUARTER STRIKING MANTEL CLOCK Breguet & Fils, Swiss, movement No. 1170. Made circa 1820. Fine and impressive, white marble and ormolu, 8-day going mantel clock with quarter-striking on gongs.

The clock mounted on a plinth between two pillars, gilt bronze flower, bird and anthemion mounts, surmounted by a flower basket finial with trailing foliage and flanked by two further anthemion finials, rectangular base and gilt bronze feet, bezel decorated with a repeated stiff-leaf pattern and a tasseled swag below. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute ring with Arabic 15-minute numerals. Steel ovoid hands. Circular flat-bottomed plates, going barrels for both trains, anchor escapement, pendulum with gilt-bronze sunburst bob, striking the quarters with two hammers on two coiled gongs, strikework on the backplate in the Neuchateloise manner.
