?A Monsieur Ducom de Bordeaux? Breguet, ?Grande Horloge? Marine chronometer No. 3219, U2, sold to Monsieur Ducom de Bordeaux on December 7, 1818, for 3000 Francs, with a 10% discount to 2700 Francs. Very fine and very rare, eight-day mahogany and brass-cased marine chronometer with power reserve indication.

C. Two-body solid mahogany box with sliding observation panel in the lid. Brass handles and fittings. The movement mounted in a cylindrical brass bowl and suspended within shaped square gimbals. D. Matte silvered, eccentric, signed ?Breguet Neveu & Comp., No. 3219,? radial Roman numerals and outer dot minute markers, symmetrically positioned subsidiary seconds ring, power-reserve sector on the right. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. Brass, three-quarter plate with spotted finish and turned pillars, fusee and chain, maintaining power, navette-shaped platform with spring detent escapement, No. 21, bimetallic two-arm, free-sprung compensation balance with cylindrical weights and peripheral adjustment screws, blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves and adjustable stud. Dial signed. Diam of dial: 125 mm. Dim. 210 x 210 x 220 mm.

Monsieur Ducom was from Bordeaux and was Breguet?s principal agent in the region. This chronometer was bought back from Ducom on April 27, 1819, it was again sent to Ducom on September 22, 1819 at a price of 2700 Francs. According to the records, the escapement Nos. 12 & 14 was replaced with the No. 21 now fitted. The repair books record that it returned to the workshops in December 1828 on behalf of a Monsieur Friedlin, who declared himself to be very satisfied with its performance and requested only an overhaul before he embarked with it on a trip around the world. The present lot was sold by Antiquorum Geneva, The Art of Breguet, April 14, 1991, Lot 61.
