Breguet No. 339, sold to Mr. Dosne on 31 December 1844, for 1240 Francs. Rare and unusual 18 ct. gold, early keyless watch with eccentric dial, slow/fast regulation and hand setting button in the band.

C. Three piece, "forme quatre baguette", by Tavernier (master mark) No. 834, engine-turned. D. White enamel, eccentric with Roman numerals and secret signature below "12". Gold Breguet hands. M. 16-, gilt brass, bar calibre with going barrel, conventional ruby cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with bimetallic compensation curb on the index adjusted from the band by means of a slide and lever. Winding crown on the pendant, pull hand setting button in the band. Signed on the dial. In good condition. Diam. 42 mm.

Notes

The unusual early stem winding system of this watch with the hands set from the band by means of a pull button, seems to be experimental as it is unrecorded and apparently was never used again on other watches. The original dial, engraved in brass was certainly replaced by Breguet at the request of the owner.
