C. 3 pp. published by Breguet for the presentation in his shop of this highly important clock, which was destroyed in the fire of his mansion near the lake of Como (Italy).On the base of the clock was engraved: "Horloge et montre marines où sont deux régulateurs différents; l'un seul en usage depuis plus d'un demi-siècle, mais perfectionné ici, pour le renouvellement de l'huile, par un procédé ignoré jusqu'à ce jour, l'autre d'invention nouvelle, à tourbillon, force constante et spiral s'ouvrant concentriquement."This piece by Breguet, ordered by M. de Sommariva, executed with no limit to time, to expenditure, to volume and to composition, was begun in 1802, and finished in 1813. Effort of the artist to make this machine a monument of the state of horology at the beginning of the 19th siècle, adjoining to the purity of the principles, the greatest luxury of execution."
