Notes

This is the instrument Professor Engel bought from George Brown, the owner of Breguet. It is said to have been used in Breguet's shop for engraving secret signatures. The pantograph is a precision instrument used for reduction or enlargement. It was invented about 1610 by German Jesuit Christopher Scheiner (1575-1650), who used it for making optical copies.
