Georges Vuitton (d. 1936)
Was the son and successor of Louis Vuitton (1821-1892), who in 1854 came to Paris and opened a luggage store. After his father?s death, Georges built Louis Vuitton into an international firm, participating in World?s Fairs, touring many cities the world over to promote Vuitton products, and introducing innovative types of trunks and travel bags. In 1914, the Louis Vuitton Building, at the time the largest travelgoods store in the world, opened on the Champs-Elysees. Additional stores opened in New York, Bombay, Washington, London, Alexandria and Buenos Aires, on the eve of World War I.In 1936, the golden age of Louis Vuitton ended with the death of Georges Vuitton. His son Gaston-Louis Vuitton assumed control of the company.
