"guilloché" silver with painted radial Roman numerals on a plain eccentric ring dial at 12, sector at6 graduated in 20 over the visible tourbillon cage under a polished 2-arm steel bridge, subsidiary 3-arm seconds hand on the tourbil-lonshaft, secret Breguet signature. Cal. 558, gilt brass, hand-engraved, 21 jewels, lateral lever escapement with one-minute tour-billonregulator with polished steel arms, monometallic balance adjusted to 6 positions, self-compensating Breguet balance spring.Dial, case and movement signed.Diam. 36 mm.

Breguet received the patent from the French Ministery of theeInterior for a new regulating device for watches, the Tourbillon,on June 26, 1801 - or according to the short-lived Republican cal-endarof the time, 7 Messidor, year IX - Technically an innovative andcomplex mechanism, only 35 watches of this kind were sold between 1805and 1823, the year of Abraham Louis Breguet's death.
