What Is a Tourbillon? See Lot 113.What is a Power Reserve? The power reserve, reserve de marche, is a complication which is used on mechanical wristwatches. A manually wound mechanical movement has a mainspring that needs to be permanently monitored. After a certain amount of time, the wristwatch will run out of power and the mainspring will need to be rewound. The power reserve indicator adds a measure of control over the mainspring and indicates when to wind the watch. Power reserves are also located on automatic movements. In this type of wristwatchs well, the power reserve indicates how much power is left in the mainspring when the wristwatch is not worn.Jaquet-DrozPierre Jaquet-Droz (1721-1790) was an eminent horologist of the Neuchâtel region. He earned a brilliant reputation as a clockmaker and was the first to make the intricate singing bird boxes which charmed late 18th century Europe. His son, Henri-Louis (1752-1791) joined his father's firm and together they became famous for their ingenious complicated clocks and automata.By reproducing automata and singing bird pieces today, Jaquet-Droz reestablishes its former reputation as a manufacturer of complicated mechanical timepieces and automata.Recently, the company was purchased by the Swatch Group.
