Swiss, made for the Islamic market, circa 1850. Very fine and extremely rare 18K gold and enamel diamond-set folding lorgnon with concealed watch and miniature compartment, accompanied by a gold ratchet Breguet type key.

Predominately in translucent red enamel over flinqué, the covers with diamond-set frames decorated with diamond-set flowers, the front housing the watch, the back a compartment for a miniature, translucent scarlet enamel handle with diamond-set thumb piece, small pushbutton in handle releasing spectacle glasses, another, diamond-set releases the watch cover. D. White enamel, Islamic numerals, outer minute divisions. Gold Breguet hands. M. Circular, 20 mm (9???), frosted gilt bar caliber, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with flat balance spring.Dim. Length 96 mm, width 23 mm, thickness 21 mm.

The present lorgnon differs from the others in terms of its size and its decoration, as well as its miniature compartment. It is punched with a maker?s mark which is barely legible and appears to bear the initials ?CD? in a lozenge.
