Jimmy Buffett
Singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett has become a legend of popular culture as the composer of such
classic songs as "Margaritaville " , "Cheeseburger In Paradise " and "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in
Attitudes. " Buffett has recorded thirty albums, including six gold, three platinum and two multi-platinum
releases. His recording, BOATS, BEACHES, BARS & BALLADS, is the biggest selling box set in MCA
Record history.
Buffett has also written two No. 1 best sellers, Tales from Margaritaville, Where is Joe Merchant?, and
his latest book, A Pirate Looks At Fifty(June 1998), also went straight to #1 on the New York Times
Bestseller list. His latest record, DON'T STOP THE CARNIVAL, on Margaritaville/Island Records is a
result of his collaboration with Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Herman Wouk. This musical adaptation of
Wouk's famous novel garnered Buffett and Wouk a Carbonell Award, by the South Florida Critics
Association for "Best New Work".

Located in Sag Harbor, the library was built in 1910 by Mrs. Russell Sage. Mrs Sage built the library in
memory of her grandfather, Major John Jermain, and presented it as a gift to the Village of Sag Harbor. The
library formally opened for inspection and the signing of applications on June 18, 1910. Miss Cora H.
Bunker, Librarian, was on hand to acquaint the public with the new building and its contents. On October
10, 1910 the doors opened with 5,000 volumes available. The opening ceremonies took place on October
13th with Mrs. Sage, Olive Pratt Young, the new librarian, and the official staff present. A short dedicatory
prayer was offered by Reverend William T. Edds of the Sag Harbor Presbyterian. Two hundred and fifty
books were checked out the first day, with Mrs. Sage having the honor of taking out the first book. Within a
month, 1248 Sag Harbor residents were registered borrowers. Circulation for the first year was 51,755 items.

Located in Sag Harbor, the museum consists of whaling memorabilia including implements, logbooks,
whale bone, scrimshaw, paintings, ship models, navigation instruments, shipbuilding tools, and records and
documents pertaining to the business of whaling. It also consists of items from the history of Sag Harbor
and its environs including paintings, photographs, maps, toys, documents, furniture, musical instruments,
tools and household implements. Many items brought back to Sag Harbor from distant shores by whalemen
are on display. Jawbones of a Right Whale, a set of trypots, and a whaleboat are displayed outdoors. The
museum is housed in a beautiful Greek Revival structure built in 1845 as a home for Benjamin Huntting
II, who owned whaling ships and was also involved with shipbuilding, shipping, and merchandising in Sag
Harbor.
