Spirit of Ecstasy
This statuette is the mascot of the Rolls-Royce car brand. It was created in 1911, at the request of Claude Goodman Johnson (1864-1926), the brand’s President and Director, by the English sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes (1875-1950) to embellish the brand’s radiator caps. The statuette was to inspire “the spirit of the Rolls-Royce, precisely: speed and silence, absence of vibration, great power mysteriously coupled with a beautiful living organism of superb grace...”.
