Notes

ARMAN (1928 - 2005) French-Born American Artist Arman, born Armand Pierre Fernandez in France, is recognized internationally as a major contributor to late 20th century art. He is a main protagonist of ?New Realism?, a school parallel to the American Pop Art movement. At the core of his artistic statement is ?accumulations? - the use of everyday objects as subject matter. This amounted to a "poetic recycling of urban, industrial and advertising reality", in the words of art critic Pierre Restany. The concept has been expressed in a range of media and materials, including monumental sculptures, paintings, and small gold and silver pieces designed to be worn as jewelry. Arman?s work is represented in major museums and in private and public collections worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France; the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Solomon R.Guggenheim Museum in New York; and the Tel Aviv Museum in Israel.
