The manufacturer of Super Compressor cases, Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA), offers water-resistant watch cases that are easily recognizable by their two knurled crowns. The upper crown operates the inner rotating dive bezel, while the lower crown serves the traditional functions of a winding crown.
These cases were used by numerous watch brands, both renowned and lesser-known, such as Universal Genève, IWC, Longines, LIP, Wittnauer, Droz, Hamilton, Enicar, Baylor, Sandoz, and others. All are signed with the EPSA hallmark, featuring the brand’s distinctive diving helmet engraving.
Water-resistant to 200 meters, the Super Compressor case was patented in 1953 under numbers 317537/337462 and was produced throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
This particular Bulova model dates from 1963. It features a 36mm round stainless steel case, a black dial with painted Arabic numerals, luminescent hands, and a central seconds hand. The movement is an automatic caliber 11 AFAC, operating at 18,000 A/h with a 40-hour power reserve, complete and fair condition but needs to be serviced.
