Ref. 6238, retailed by Cartier Rolex, ?Chronograph?, case No. 1205866, Ref. 6238, retailed by Cartier. Made in 1965. Fine and very rare, water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch with round button chronograph, registers, steel bezel with tachometer graduated to 300 UPH and a stainless steel Rolex Jubilee bracelet with deployant clasp.

C. Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back and crown, tachometer graduation on the steel bezel up to 300 UPH. D. Bi-color black and matte silver with applied steel baton indexes and luminous dots, subsidiary dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers, outer minute/seconds division.Luminous steel baton hands. M. Cal. 722-1, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, adjusted to three positions, shock absorber, self-compensating blued Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 36 mm. Thickness 13 mm. Approx. overall length 170 mm.

This reference, along with the Explorer, Ref. 6610, is one of the earliest examples of a Rolex retailed by Cartier and signed by Cartier on the dial. Ref. 6238 Is known by collectors as the ?Pre-Daytona? and was first published in the Rolex catalogue in 1964. This reference was available in stainless steel, 14K and 18K gold, until it was removed from the Rolex catalogue in 1968.
