Nicknamed “jeweller of kings and king of jewellers”, Cartier saw one of its most prolific design periods in the early 20th century when the manufacture created iconic and “avant-garde”, watches such as the Santos, the Cintrée and like the present timepiece, the tonneau-shaped case. This is the first manufacture to launch the Tonneau shape wristwatch, which makes this lot a true milestone in the watchmaking history.
