Introduced in 1959 the DS line stood for double security a reference to its increased resistance to shocks and depth capacity. This reference is the first dive reference ever made by the firm in 1960 and has some of the most iconic features such as the lozenge shaped radium indexes and the minute-track revolving bezel. This particular example has been preserved in very good overall condition with a beautiful warm tropical dial and although faint, reference and case numbers are still visible on the caseback (a very rare fact as engravings on early Certina's just like Universal's were light and had a strong tendency to disappear through wear or polish), a testament to its overall condition of preservation.
