A fine and rare, silver octagonal-shaped small Butterfield-type portable horizontal sundial, with compass. The plate engraved in taille-douce with three hour scales for latitudes 40°, 45° and 50°; spring-loaded folding gnomon with bird-shaped index and latitude scale from 40° to 60°. Small central engraved rosette surrounded by the maker’s signature. The reverse engraved in taille-douce with the names of 20 European cities and their respective latitudes.
