Chopard?s L.U.C 1.02 Quattro Tourbillon was made in a limited edition of 100 pieces in platinum and 100 in 18K pink gold.
Chopard In 1860, Louis-Ulysse Chopard founded a high-precision watchmaking ?manufacture? in Sonvilier in the Swiss Jura, producing pocket watches and chronometers. In 1920 Chopard moved to Geneva, launching their production of luxury watches. In 1963 Chopard was bought by Karl Scheufele, third of the line and owner of the German firm ?Eszeha?, founded in 1904, specializing in jewelry and jeweled watches. Production in both sites continued under the name of Chopard. In 1975, the company moved from the center of Geneva to its current Meyrin-Geneva location. That same year, the Chopard France distribution subsidiary was created, and, in 1976, the Chopard Watch Corporation was set up in New York. Chopard today is headed by Karl Scheufele, president, and his wife Karin, together with their children, Karl- Friedrich and Caroline, both vice-presidents of the company. 1986 saw the opening of the Chopard boutique in Geneva. Many other Chopard boutiques have been established since in Athens, Baden-Baden, Cannes, Istanbul, London, Marbella, München, Paris, Vienna, New York, Dubai, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo. In 1996 Chopard returned to its roots by creating a fully-fledged ?manufacture? in Fleurier, in the Swiss Jura, where a new automatic movement was crafted. It became the L.U.C. watch which was voted ?Watch of the Year? in 1997. Other celebrated Chopard creations include the Happy Diamonds collection, a unique watch jewelry concept with diamonds moving freely on and around the dial. This became a great classic and paved the way for the development of a whole range of lady?s watches, such as the Happy Sport watch, together with jewels and accessories. Chopard, part of the illustrious history of Geneva clock- and watchmaking, produces exceptional quality and high precision watches such as skeleton watches and complicated watches like the perpetual calendar chronograph. The supremely elegant José Carreras watch pays tribute to the great tenor and supports the José Carreras Foundation for the Fight Against Leukemia. Made from 1996 for five years, each in a limited edition of 250 examples, the watch cases of these watches are hand-engraved with the tenor?s signature and the façade of one of his favorite opera houses. The 1996 models represented the Vienna Opera House, while the 1997-98 series, made both as gentleman?s and lady?s models, represent the ?Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin?. Chopard is also the official sponsor of the famous Italian vintage car race the ?Mille Miglia? and every year creates a special ?Mille Miglia? watch for the event.
