Notes

F. W. Clerke was not merely a retailer of chronometer made up for him by others in the trade. In about 1870 he designed and made a short interval timer with split seconds facility, described in the journal of the Antiquarian Horological Society for March 20007. He is recorded as working at Cornhill, London, from 1863 until 1881, and died in 1885 at the age of 65.
