Two-body, solid, polished and brushed, graduated bezel, reeded band, straight lugs, snap-on case back with a bas-relief of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, cabochon sapphire-set winding crown, sapphire crystal. Coin-like dial decorated with the map of The United States, in relief: PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, INAUGURATED JANUARY 20, 1965. Black gold baton hands. Cal. 9```, rhodium-plated, fausses cotes decoration, 18 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self compensating flat balance spring.

Only 2 pieces were produced for each inauguration, one given to respective Presidents, and the other preserved carefully for the last few decades. It is a very rare opportunity to encounter these pieces at auction. LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON (1908-1973) "LBJ" was the 36th President of the US. Two years and ten months after being sworn in as VP. He succeeded John F. Kennedy following his assassination. A season politician, he is one of four people who have served in both offices of the executive branch as well as both houses of Congress. Strongly supported by the Democratic Party, he designed the "Great Society" legislation upholding Civil Rights, public broadcasting, Medicare, Medicaid, aid to education, the arts, urban and rural development and public services. He helped millions rise above the poverty level with his "War on Poverty". A hawk, LBJ escalated US involvement in theVietnam war creating a growing unrest and a decline in public support. However, he is ranked favorably by some historians for his legislation on civil rights, gun control and social security. The second inauguration of LYNDON B. JOHNSON as the 36th President of the United States was held on January 20, 1965.
