Only 2 pieces were produced for each inauguration, one given to respective Presidents, and the other preserved carefully for the last few decades. It is a very rare opportunity to encounter these pieces at auction. RICHARD MILHOUS NIXON (1913-1994) Educated at Whittier College and graduated 3rd in his class at Duke University School of Law. US Representative and Senator, 36th VP of US 1953-1961, 37th President of the US 1969-1974. Nixon holds the distinction of being the only US President to resign the office. He ended the American involvement in the war in Vietnam and brought the American POWs home. During His administration he ended military draft, enforced desegregation and established the Environmental Protection Agency. In 1972 he opened diplomatic relations with China, a contributing factor to his re-election by one of the largest landslides in US history. However, an Arab oil embargo and the escalating Watergate scandal cost him most of his political support leading him to choose resignation over his almost impeachment in August 1974. The first inauguration of RICHARD M. NIXON as the 37th President of the United States was held on January 20, 1969.
