THE MANDOLIN Des Arts Pére fils & Cie, (Genève). Made circa 1810. Fine and rare, 18K gold and enamel form watch with concealed dial and visible balance, designed as a mandolin. Accompanied by a gold ratchet key.
Two-body, "fermée" type, the sound-board chased and engraved with a seated cherub, flowers and foliage, glazed sound-hole displaying the balance clock and balance, black enamel decoration, the vaulted back with alternating sections of champlevé enamel in blue and yellow, red and black, wire strings, gold suspension chain. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions. Gold spear hands. 20 mm. hinged, gilt brass full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, plain three-arm brass balance, continental clock, silver regulator plate.
