DU BOIS & FILS - QUARTER REPEATING GOLD & HAIRWORK WATCH Du Bois & Fils, (Geneva), case No. 5600. Made circa 1830. Fine and rare, quarter-repeating, 18K gold pocket watch with hairwork decoration.
Three-body, bassine et filets, polished, fluted band, the front cover decorated with an applied gold flower and foliate wreath, central applied shield engraved with initials EEJ, the back cover set with a glazed hairwork panel depicting an urn beneath a willow tree and the date 16 April, 1831, applied flower and foliate border to complement the front cover. Gilt-metal dust cap. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, winding aperture at 2. Pierced gold hour hand. 42 mm., matte gilt, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three-arm balance, flat balance spring, pierced and engraved continental cock with faceted red endstone, silvered regulation dial, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant.
