Notes

Dufour, Fol & Compagnie – Dufour & Ceret
Pierre Dufour, son of Jacques Dufour, was born into a family of Genevan watchmakers. Around 1785, he joined forces with a watchmaker named Jacques-Daniel Fol, creating the company name “Dufour, Fol & Cie”. Pierre Dufour’s brother-in-law, Louis Ceret, worked with him at the head of the Manufacture Royale d’Horlogerie in Ferney (Ain, France), signing their production “Dufour & Ceret à Ferney”. Organised and protected by Voltaire, this manufacture later became the “Grand Comptoir”. In 1792, the “Grand Comptoir” was offered by the two watchmakers to Louis Ceret’s son, Bénédict Ceret, thus providing him with financial security. From 1796 to 1802, Louis Ceret formed a partnership in Geneva with the Veigneurs brothers, Jean-Marc and Isaac.
