Harrison Ford
Widely recognized for his work in the "Indiana Jones" trilogy which was preceded
by another blockbuster trilogy "Star Wars", Harrison Ford is one of the leading male
actors of today.
Ford received his first academy award nomination for his portrayal of a big city
detective thrust into the world of the Amish in the hit film "Witness". He also has
received best actor nominations for his roles in both "The Fugitive " and "Sabrina".
Additional film credits include "Presumed Innocent", "Working Girl", "Mosquito
Coast", "Blade Runner", "Patriot Games", and "Clear and Present Danger".
A native of Chicago who currently resides in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Ford is an
avid supporter of environmental concerns. He is actively involved in a number of
conservation groups and has produced numerous public service announcements for
the archaeology group of Colorado, Arizona, Alaska, New Mexico, North Carolina,
and Mississippi. He also serves as the spokesperson for the Lancaster farmland trust
to protect Amish Farms in Pennsylvania. Not only has he generously donated his time
to such causes, he has additionally donated 389 acres of his property for a conservation
easement to the Jackson Hole land trust which is protected in perpetuity.
In 1994, Ford was honored as Star of the Century by the National Association of
Theater Owners.
Located in New York, Friends In Deed is a privately funded non-profit
organization dedicated to providing emotional, spiritual, and psychological support to
all those affected by life-threatening illnesses. Believing that a small group of friends
devoted to positive support can make a difference, Friends In Deed offers weekly
support groups consisting of 8-10 people, as well as the "Big Group", which is the
heart and soul of the organization.
The big group allows the people whose lives have been touched by lifethreatening
illnesses, primarily AIDS and cancer to express their emotions and
reactions to the illness and share their experiences. The group is for people who are
dealing with illness themselves, their families, friends, and caregivers, and anyone
dealing with grief and loss. Additionally, Friends In Deed offers other support groups
including, "Start the Conversation", "The Friends In Deed Singers", "Guided
Meditation", "Sunset Yoga", and "Stretch and Relaxation " .
