Ergas, “Rex Mundi”
The “Rex Mundi” clock was launched in 1968, the year of the Olympic Games in Mexico. It is manufactured by Ergas S.à.r.l., Tramelan (Bernese Jura), with three different bezel colours: gold, silver and bronze; like the Olympic medals.
The central part of the dial features a map of the globe, seen from the North Pole. A black hand crosses Mexico City and a black index, fixed to the outside of the disc, is aligned with the Greenwich meridian. The disc makes one revolution in 24 hours in a counter-clockwise direction.
The clock is equipped with a patented electro-mechanical movement by Erwin Vuilleumier of Tramelan (Bernese Jura), with the barrel spring wound by a small 6-volt electric motor.
