F.P. Journe “Centigraphe S”
Venturing in a new type of sport orientated watches, Francois-Paul Journe (b.1957) released the Journe “Centigraphe S” (“S” for sport) in aluminium exclusively from 2011 to 2014 only.
Initially launched in 2008 in platinum, the watch was developed in close collaboration with Jean Todt (b.1946) – who is the Centigraph’s godfather – who discussed a chronograph that would be ideal for car racing. It became the first wristwatch in the world featuring a single wound movement measuring elapsed times from one hundredth of a second to 10 minutes on three separate dials with a power reserve of approximately 80 hours (24 hours when the chronograph is engaged).
The watch won the Aiguille d’or at the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie in 2008. According to the F.P. Journe website, only 104 of the “Centigraphe Sport” in aluminium were made in 2012, making this model highly sought-after and produced in very limited numbers during its production span.
Weighing only 55 grams, the watch impresses by its comfort on the wrist combined with a highly technical calibre 1506 allowing for precise race timing. A future classic that collectors have already started to add to their portfolios as highlighted by the current increase of prices achieved at international auctions.
