Louis Frederic Lebet, Swiss, made for Hugo, Müller & Co., London & Shangaï, circa 1880. Fine and rare, 18 ct. gold, hunting cased, cover winding watch with the "Remontoire perpétuel à décrochement", keyless device, patented by B. Haas Jne. & Cie. in 1873.

C. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets", engineturned, the cover engraved with a small monogram in an escutcheon with outer floral and foliage decoration.. Gold cuvette. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and sunk subsidiary secondsr. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. 18"', nickel plated, "fausses côtes" decoration with two medals of the Paris Exhibition of 1867, wound by opening and closing the cover, 19 jewels partly in gold screwed settings, gold wheel train, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. The hands are set by a small button in the band that is revealed when a slide is moved. Signed on the cuvette. In very good condition. Diam. 54 mm.

This important watch embodies two of Haas patented inventions: the cover winding system, so called: " Remontoire perpétuel à décrochement" and the hand setting device. A photocopy of the patent will be supplied with the watch. Previously in the Camerer Cuss collection, this watch is described and illustrated in The Camerer Cuss Book of Antique Watches, p. 244, plate 155.
