18K yellow gold, enamel and opal-set, open-face, key-winding, round-shaped, “Directoire” pocket watch.
Case-back with a scene showing a battle between European and Ottoman soldiers; the painting on enamel on gold by an unidentified Genevan workshop; the border with geometrical paillon decoration; the bezels with “filigrane”-décor set with half opals; the case-band engraved in taille-douce (fine-cut).
White enamel dial with suspended Arabic numerals; yellow gold “Breguet” hands.
17’’’, full plate, gilded brass, with fusee and chain, cylinder escapement, monometallic balance (probably gilded brass) and blued steel flat hairspring, pierced and engraved gilded continental cock.

Gregson, Jean, Paris (fl.1776-1790)
Watchmaker from England, Jean Gregson (?-?) is active in Paris in the second half of the 18th century. He does not demand mastery but obtains, in 1776, the title of “Marchand Horloger Privilégié du Roi suivant la Cour et Conseils de Sa Majesté”, whether “Watchmaker of the King”, although foreign and protestant. Jean Gregson seems to have left France at the time of the Revolution. He is no longer mentioned in Paris after 1790. He is previously established rue Dauphine and signs his watches: “Horloger du Roy” or “Horloger de la Cour de France”.
