TORTOISESHELL SINGING BIRD

Attributed to Griesbaum, Germany. Made circa 1900. Fine, tortoiseshell and gilt metal, singing bird box. Accompanied by a fitted box and key. Rectangular case entirely made of tortoiseshell, gilt metal singing bird box cover engraved with two birds with flower and leaf border. Singing bird movement: going barrel, rectangular bellows, Griesbaum whistle, the bird rotating and moving wings, tail and beak, controlled by a rack and two cams mounted beneath the barrel, gilt brass grille engraved with foliage, activated by a bird-form slide in the side of the case.
